Birthday Traditions at Rollerland

Tradition is important. Many families celebrate the passing of each year with a birthday tradition. Where you live and where you’ve grown up could mean that your birthday traditions are extremely different that those of others. Perhaps you are used to the traditional western celebrations that are commonly celebrated in the United States. These often include include bright decorations, a cake (and maybe ice cream), the birthday song, and on many occasions, a birthday party or celebration. Sometimes a party for kids might take place at a favorite event venue, such as Rollerland Skate Center in Fort Collins! In other parts of the world, some of these common traditions may be shared, but there may be additional traditions.

Birthday Traditions at RollerlandOur neighbors to the north in Canada (the Atlantic side) celebrate birthdays with the greasing of a nose. Yes, that’s right, you might have your nose greased for your birthday! Imagine if you will, all of your friends and family members coming after you with butter or margarine. Once they’ve got you trapped, they spread it on your nose. With a buttered nose, the bad luck won’t stick to you for the year!

Heading south, a tradition in Mexico includes the piñata. Armed with a bat or a stick, blindfolded children take turns hitting a paper maché animal or figure in an effort to break it open and get the sudden shower of goodies that are stuffed inside. Don’t forget that you have the option to make this activity less dangerous with eliminating blindfolds.

Rollerland is family owned and operated, and roller skating has always been a part of birthday traditions for us. We invite you and your family to share in this tradition by celebrating your next birthday at Rollerland Skate Center.

What’s the Most Productive Day of the Week? Tuesday!

Did you know that Tuesdays are the most productive day of the week? According to they are! Lifehacker shared the results of a Canadian survey among human resource managers. The results pointed out the most productive days of the week with 33% of the managers identifying Tuesday as the most productive day of the week. We had no idea that Tuesdays were the most productive day of the week, but at Rollerland Skate Center, we intend to help everyone be more productive.Fort Collins, Tuesdays

We figure that if everyone is so productive on Tuesdays, then they’re gonna want to take things just a little bit further. You can be productive with your physical health by hitting the rink and getting the exercise you need. You can be productive with your social life by stopping by Fort Collin’s best hangout on a Tuesday night. Or, you can take a break from all of that productivity that you’ve experienced throughout the day and just relax with some of the best beats dropped by our DJ.

Can I Get a Favor?

Many modern birthday parties include a fun partying gift or fun party favor from the guest of honor to the guests. We’ve seen lots of fun ideas put into practice when it comes to party favors for friends. Below is a list of three simple party favor ideas that you can use:

Chalk ArtBirthday party

You’ve seen the growing trend of chalk art all around! Encourage the creativity of your child and the guests at the party by providing a container of sidewalk chalk for guests as a party favor. This is a low-budget option since you can usually find it at the dollar store.

BONUS: This won’t make noise at home and clean up is easy as it is taken care of by the rain!

If you’ve got a princess or a ballerina celebrating, there is no easier way to get everyone in on the action than with a tutu as a favor! Visit the local craft or fabric store for tulle and elastic. With a little time and a lot of knot tying, you’ll have simple hand made tutus that party guests can skate around in and wear home! Of course, if you’ve got a superhero celebrating a simple makeshift cape is easy to make as well!

BONUS: These options make it easy to spot party participants on the roller skating rink floor

Photo Booth

Gather a few fun props such as hats, boas, crowns, and glasses. Create a temporary photo booth opportunity for your roller skating guests with these items. We’ll even let you hang a sheet or tablecloth to make for a fun photobooth backdrop. Make an effort to either take a group photo at one point or to get a photo with each guest and the birthday guest of honor.

BONUS: Print these off for a great memory to send along with a thank you note!

Don’t Lose Sight of 2016 Goals

We know that the end of February is nearly here, but we wanted to remind you that some of the most common New Year’s Resolutions center around saving money, spending time with family, and getting in shape. At Rollerland in Fort Collins, we’ve got a solution to help with all three of those resolutions or goals. What is that solution you ask? Roller skating of course!

1. Save MoneyFort Collins family events

These days dinner and a movie can cost a small fortune. If your goal is to cut your spending in the area of entertainment, then we’ve got a solution for you with our Wacky Wednesday skating sessions! Each Wednesday from 5-8pm we offer skating admission, playground admission, and laser maze admission for just $2.00 each.

2. Spend Time with Family

Did you know we offer a Family Fun Friday package? We do! Every Friday after 6:00pm we offer up 5 Fun & Games Specials, a large pizza, a pitcher of soda, and 40 extra game tokens for $49! We require that at least one participant is a parent. This is a great way to spend time with family and save money at the same time!

3. Get in Shape

We’ve done the math, and it turns out that about eighteen laps around the roller skating rink is equal to one mile. Don’t know about you, but the idea of skating miles is much more appealing us than running because it is easier on the joints! As an added bonus, check out how many calories you’ll burn while roller skating with this calorie calculator!

We hope that these helpful suggestions will help you reach your goals! To see our latest events, specials, and announcements, follow us on Facebook!
