After the holidays, the last thing many people want to think about is throwing another party. But what if you have a child with a winter birthday? You definitely don’t want to ignore that! Rollerland Skate Center in Fort Collins, CO is your source for winter birthday parties. Not only is a skating party affordable and easy for parents, it’s fun for kids! • Limbo. All you need for this is a stick. Even a broom will work in a pinch, but since it’s a birthday party why not decorate a special limbo stick in the guest of honor’s favorite color, or to match the theme? If you thought limp was challenging and hilarious in shoes, wait ‘till you try it with skates.
  • Relay Races. You’ll need to check with a staff member before starting this during a public skate session, but you never know what sort of rink fun we’re already planning.

Rollerland Skate Center offers public and private party packages, depending on your budget and your desires. The sky is truly the limit. Your birthday boy or girl will have a great time and never once feel like their birthday is being overshadowed by the holidays! Check your dates and then book online!

Easy Ways Your Family Can Give Back This Season

‘Tis the season to give! While you’re preparing for family time, breaks from school, and gifts, don’t forget to give back to the community. Volunteering in your community helps kids feel empowered to change the world for the better, and can even help decrease feelings of depression and helplessness. At Rollerland Skate Center, we love giving back to Fort Collins! Check out these kid-friendly activities:helping others

  • Kids of all ages can help pack lunches for those in need. Allow them to do as much counting, sorting, and packing as they can handle. A simple, nutritious meal with a sandwich, easy-to-eat snacks, and a drink will go along way towards making someone’s day. Remember that many homeless people may not have access to dental care, and choose foods accordingly. Since it’s getting cold outside, consider adding mittens, chemical hand warmers, or travel-sized toiletries.
  • Raising money doesn’t have to be complicated, and every little bit helps! Participate in a walk/run for charity–most of these events have a family-friendly “fun run” option. All kids can start a “Helping Fund.” Whenever kids find change in their pockets, on the ground, or hidden in the couch cushions, put it in a specific jar. When the jar is full, donate it to a worthy non-profit. Of course, if you want to really go all-out, host a fundraiser at Rollerland!
  • Of course, nothing beats hands-on help. Volunteering allows kids and parents alike to see their good work up close. Here at Rollerland we’re proud to partner with Larimer Humane Society and Food Bank for Larimer County, both of which are fantastic organizations doing a lot of good in this area.

No matter how you choose to give back, we hope you’ll reward yourself afterward with a family trip to Rollerland Skate Center!

Dates on Skates!

Is there any dating ritual more fraught than the first date? It carries so much weight (people love to ask couples about their first date) and it sets the tone for the relationship for months or even years. You want to make a great impression, get to know the other person, have fun, and not break the bank, all at once! That’s where Rollerland Skate Center in Fort Collins, CO comes in! Check out the reasons to try roller skating as your best first date idea:

holding hands

  • Nobody wants to be thought of as boring, and a skating date is nothing if not unusual. Lots of people probably haven’t gone skating since they were kids or teens! You get points for creativity and nostalgia.
  • Skating means you can avoid awkward small talk: between the music, the activity itself and the memories, you’ll have plenty to talk about other than the weather.
  • Is one of you feeling a little wobbly on your skates? What a great excuse to hold hands!
  • Getting a little physical activity will boost your moods, decrease stress leftover from the workday, and help everyone feel less nervous so you can get to know each other better.
  • Skating is a truly low-pressure activity. It’s inexpensive but thoughtful. The casual atmosphere plus the unique event make a great first impression.

Next time you ask someone out, ask them to join you at Rollerland! We have open skate sessions almost every day of the week, and even an adult-only (18+) skate on Wednesday nights!

Skating Blisters 911

Nothing ruins your roller skating fun quicker than a gross, painful blister! Don’t worry, though–they’re not a fact of life. Here’s how to prevent roller skating blisters!

  • bandaidFirst, make sure your skates are right for you. They should fit well, and be in good repair, with no damage, loose parts, etc. If you’re not sure what size you need, don’t guess–talk to one of the friendly, professional staff at Rollerland Skate Center.  Make sure your skates are properly laced and tied tightly so they won’t slip and slide on your feet.
  • Second, check what’s under your skates. Always wear socks when roller skating! Thick, long socks that extend several inches past the top of the skate boot are your best bet. Make sure your socks fit you well and aren’t bunched up in the toe of your skates.
  • Finally, look at how you’re skating. If you push with just your toes, you’re likely to develop blisters there. Instead, push off with your whole foot, which spreads out the pressure and minimizes friction on your toes.

If you do get a blister despite your efforts, resist the urge to pop or poke at it! Cushion it with a blister bandage. If it pops on its own, keep the area clean and dry to prevent infection.  Finally, remember that practice makes perfect–the more you skate, the stronger your feet will get and the less prone to blisters you’ll be. Check out the schedule and come work on your skills at Rollerland Skate Center anytime we’re open!
